The sci-fi thriller ended on a major cliffhanger in Season 3, and moving forward, there are even more mysteries to be unraveled about Eleven and the rest of the Hawkins gang and beyond. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about Stranger Things Season 4. But beware: There are huge spoilers ahead if you’re not caught up on the first three seasons! Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

When is Stranger Things Season 4 coming out?

Stranger Things Season 4 will be divided into two parts, the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, wrote in a letter to fans in February 2022. Season 4, Volume 1 will drop on Netflix on May 27, 2022, with Volume 2 following on July 1, 2022. “With nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one. Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you,” they wrote. “Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes. Volume One will release on May 27; Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1. So that’s the good news. It’s coming soon. And it’s better than ever. It’s also the beginning of the end.” Even before Netflix confirmed the 2022 premiere date, it was looking more and more like the gap between StrangerThings seasons was going to be a big one this time around. While an earlier teaser from the Stranger Things’ writers room’s Twitter account stated 2020 as the release date, series star DavidHarbour said otherwise in a March 2020 Instagram Live, according to Digital Spy. He confirmed to his followers at the time that while Season 4 was “supposed to come out early next year,” as in 2021, it was also “likely to be pushed back.”

Is Stranger Things Season 4 delayed?

Production on all Netflix series was halted in mid-March 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis, and as a result, Season 4 of Stranger Things was subject to production and release delays as well. Director and executive producer Shawn Levy told Varietyof the decision to halt production, “I was having phone calls with Netflix while directing takes and blocking scenes. We shared the news with our cast and crew that we would be pausing production out of an abundance of caution. There were no sick crew members, no one was exhibiting symptoms, but it seemed like the right thing to do.” Levy added that it was a “bittersweet moment” to shut down production a month in “when [they] felt like [they] were on a roll.” He admitted, “When you’re shooting, you create this micro society, this community. You’re aware of the world beyond, but in all of my years directing and producing, I’m hard pressed to come up with any comparisons for this truly global situation.” Some of the cast had a table read before production shut down, and the adorable moments were captured on video.

Is there a Stranger Things 4 trailer?

Yes; in fact, there are several! The most recent trailer, released on April 12, 2022, opens with a mysterious male voice sneering, “You’ve broken everything. Your suffering is almost … at an end.” When that line ends, a partially-visible monster’s eyes open. Next, Max reads a letter out loud to her dead brother, Billy, at his grave, saying, “Ever since you left, everything’s been a total disaster.” Along with images of the kids entering high school, including Lucas playing on the basketball team and Mike and Eleven holding hands at a roller rink. We also see Hopper in his glorious return, saying he’ll help the cause even if it’s the last thing he does. Dr. Owens warns Eleven that a war is coming to Hawkins and she says she doesn’t have her powers — but he tells her that without her, they can’t win the war. You also see Robert Englund (for a split second), Joyce Byers getting a large mysterious package — and a full look at the monster at the very end of the clip. The trailer below, released in November 2021, shows Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) telling Mike (Finn Wolfhard) in a letter that she’s “finally adapted” to her new life (out of Hawkins and without powers) and that they’re going to have the “best spring break ever!” That’s followed by a series of explosions, car crashes, shootouts and more. Before that, the most recent one debuted during Netflix’s “Tudum” preview event and introduced fans to Creel House, the creepy new location where Season 4 will reportedly take place. While there’s still a lot we don’t know (including whether Creel House is located in Hawkins), we do know that Stranger Things Season 4 will pick up immediately where Season 3 left off. Before that, a minute-long teaser premiered in August 2021 that shows that Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) will return in Season 4, despite being believed to have been killed off previously. His appearance may be a flashback into Eleven’s backstory at the Hawkins National Laboratory. We also catch glimpses of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and some seriously spooky things going on in the sky in the teaser that dropped on Aug. 6, 2021, when we hear ominous whispers of “It’s coming” and “It’s almost here.” The very first Stranger Things Season 4 trailer dropped in February 2020, titled, “From Russia with love…”
