The show that both Cryer and Sheen starred in finished its final season back in 2015. It had a solid run of 12 seasons and now, after seven years, Cryer is reflecting on his time with the series and speaks on the drama that took place with Sheen. Cryer reminisced to Entertainment Tonight about working with Sheen, stating that the early years were “an incredible joy” and that they got along great with the filming schedule going smoothly.  However, Cryer recalled “some trouble brewing” when Sheen was going through his divorce from Denise Richards in 2006. Cryer explained, “He was still lovely to work with, he still showed up on time and knew his lines and was doing the job.”  Although he was still lovely to work with, Cryer noted that Sheen started to have some issues with the script for the sitcom, which was seemingly a very minor problem before more drama started to erupt. “He started to have issues with the writing, and sometimes issues with the writing that I didn’t understand,” Cryer said. “I would say, ‘This is the kind of joke you had no problem with a year and a half ago, and suddenly now it’s an issue?’”  Shortly after, Sheen started to have a very public feud with the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, which ultimately could have ended the show early. Sheen’s behavior at the time was very erratic and unpredictable—to the point that both Lorre and Cryer were debating ending the show completely to not enable his actions. Instead, the two ultimately decided to let Sheen go from the show because they believed it would save his life. “I think there was a moment where Chuck Lorre and I were looking at each other and we said, ‘It’s not worth this show going on if going on enables Charlie Sheen to kill himself. If giving him enough money to do whatever the thing is that ends his life, you know, we don’t want to be a part of that,’” Cryer admitted. After Sheen was fired from the show, Cryer recalls everyone thinking that was it for the beloved sitcom and the series was coming to an end, but it turns out that was not the case. Lorre killed off Sheen’s character and welcomed actor Ashton Kutcher to the mix, and the show went on for four more seasons. Once Kutcher was welcomed into the cast, Cryer said that tensions dropped. “We had forgotten how tense we were all the time we were all waiting for the next shoe to drop,” he said. “And once Ashton came in with this just incredible positive energy, we all went, ‘Oh, this can be fun again!’” Next, take a look at 10 of the most outrageous quotes from Charlie Sheen.
