The Pennsylvania-based theme park announced today that it would sell pieces of its classic wooden rollercoaster, Wildcat. The family-friendly adventure park shared the news in a Facebook post on the morning of Nov. 3, and it didn’t take long for fans to realize that the park was 100 percent serious. “Own a piece of Hersheypark coaster history! We preserved 160 authentic wood and steel track pieces from the 1996 Wildcat,” the statement read. The announcement also noted that each piece is engraved with a unique serial number and the Wildcat logo. The pieces will be available in Hersheypark Supply Co. starting today at 10:30 a.m. while supplies last. The Facebook post explained that to purchase a track, you’ll have to head to Hershey for one of its limited “claim tickets” that are said to be hung with the Wildcat merchandise near the registers, as the plaques are very limited and only available in-store. Along with your sweet little piece of history, the steel track piece also includes a numbered certificate and authenticity of purchase; so if your great-great-great grandkids don’t believe your story, they’ll surely believe an authenticated piece of paper. According to the park, each piece of wood will be priced at $300, but if that’s a little too steep for you, just know your purchase is also eligible for a Season Pass discount–not bad for a unique souvenir! The limited-time memento opportunity comes after the ride closed earlier this summer to make room for an all-new hybrid coaster, Wildcat’s Revenge, which is said to have the “world’s largest underflip” found on any coaster. Based on our guest feedback, we knew coaster fans would love a hybrid at Hersheypark, and we’re thrilled to work with RMC on a custom wood and steel coaster with a nod to our history,” said GM of attractions at Hersheypark Vikki Hultquist in a Nov. 2 press release. “Wildcat’s Revenge features the very best of RMC’s signature thrills, including four inversions with the World’s Largest Underflip, Inverted Stall, Zero-G Roll, and Reversing Downhill Roll.” The 2-minute and 36-second experience begins as riders climb a 140-foot hill, plunge into an 82-degree drop, and hit a maximum speed of 62 miles per hour along 3,510 feet of red track on a black steel and wood structure, as per the release. The pursuit will continue as riders stalk their prey through four inversions, including the World’s Largest Underflip, an inversion that begins with an upward climb, followed by a counterclockwise 270° roll and a dive down towards the side.
