Depp can be seen playing guitar in several commercials he starred in for Dior’s Sauvage cologne. In the ad below, Depp strums on an electric guitar before driving into the desert. It’s unclear if he’s genuinely playing guitar or if the riffs heard are pre-recorded. In this clip for The New Elixir, Depp hangs out with wolves and plays “Wild Thing.” Whether or not his guitar playing is genuine (he may have pre-recorded his riffs), we’re willing to go out on a limb and say that he probably wasn’t actually close to the critters. In another called Game of Notes, he calls Sauvage the “punk rock” of smells in a conversation with perfumier Francois Demachy. Depp is really playing guitar in this clip.

Depp is a member of the band Hollywood Vampires alongside Aerosmithguitarist Joe Perry, Alice Cooper and Tommy Henriksen. The band performs covers of classic rock tunes, with Depp holding his own alongside Perry on slide, rhythm and lead guitar; backing and lead vocals; and keyboards. The super group performed at the 2016 Grammys in a tribute to late Motörhead frontman Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmeister and have gone on tour. You can see one of their live performances below of “The Boogieman Surprise.” Before the Hollywood Vampires, Depp was a member of P, another supergroup formed in 1993 with fellow members Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gibby Haynes from The Butthole Surfers and Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols. The group released their debut (and so far only) album, P, in 1995, along with the single “Michael Stipe,” named after the R.E.M.frontman.
