Yellowstone season 3 was literally explosive for Beth. As she was about to head out of her office for the day, she eyed a mysterious package that had arrived. Her suspicions were confirmed when her poor assistant opened the box, revealing it to be a bomb. Fans then saw a devastating detonation that blew out the office windows, but no follow-up as to Beth’s fate. Reilly added fuel to the speculation fire before the finale even aired. She posted on her Instagram, “Thank you all who watched season 3. Hope you all enjoy tonight’s finale. What a wild ride it’s been.” Her use of the past tense raised several red flags, leading fans to believe that this was the actress’ way of sending off her character Beth Dutton and her time on the show. Fans shouldn’t flock to memorialize Beth Dutton yet, though. Despite what happened in the finale, the cast and crew of Yellowstone have given mixed signals about whether the Dutton daughter survived the explosion. One possible clue comes from an interview that actor Cole Hauserdid with Esquire. When asked about the possibility of a relationship between his character, Rip Wheeler, and Beth, he replied: View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Kelly Reilly (@mzkellyreilly) “I think that world is starting to open up. That’s absolutely something that could happen. You’re going to see how it shakes out at the end, but…That relationship, it could go many different ways, but I think it could go in the way of us being together.” Yellowstone season 4 spoilers below. If you haven’t watched the premiere episodes (“Half the Money” and “Phantom Pain”), do not read any further. In one of the first scenes of Yellowstone season 4, we see Beth’s office and wonder how anyone could have survived that explosion. Producers don’t leave us hanging too long as we quickly realize Beth did survive! She’s bloody and battered, but she’s alive and she’s smoking a cigarette sitting by the side of the road. Whew! After Hauser’s optimism about Rip and Beth’s relationship were pretty sure she survived but seeing her alive makes it real. Though killing off big characters is nothing new to this era of “peak TV,” doing so to the female lead of the show would be a big statement, and could have fans in an uproar if the series had come back without Reilly. The next big question, beyond who staged the attacks, is how the explosion will change Beth. There’s a very good chance she will not be the same person we left in that office. She spent the entirety of season three opening herself up, only to have that quite literally blow up in her face. Aside from the obvious physical damage that would come from the detonation, there would definitely be mental and emotional trauma that Beth would have to work through amidst all of the usual Yellowstone drama.
