Whether you are hosting a rambunctious family gathering, or settling down for a quiet, more intimate dinner, one thing is for sure—that turkey (along with everything else) is going to cost you a bit more this year. The American Farm Bureau reports turkey prices could hit record highs this holiday season, exceeding last year’s prices by 20 percent. According to the USDA, the drastic increase in turkey prices is due to a couple of factors. The avian flu outbreak earlier this year had a drastic effect on turkey production, but overall, the higher costs are mainly due to the inflation of farming expenditures. The good news is, even though turkey farmers have had a rough go of it, there are still enough turkeys for everyone. Here’s how turkey prices (based on a 15-pound turkey) fluctuate from state to state, according to FinanceBuzz.
