Pratt and ex-wife Anna Faris share one son, Jack, born in August 2012. Faris told Women’s Health in 2018 that she and Pratt put Jack first, which makes co-parenting a bit easier for them. “What Chris and I try to do is to communicate openly. We reiterate that there aren’t rules to this,” she said. “We have a lot of love and friendship, and our big goal is to protect Jack. I cherish my family, my close friends, my child—that makes the rest of it worth it.” Still, she later admitted that it isn’t always easy to co-parent with an ex. “Chris and I work really hard [to co-parent] because we have Jack. Jack was born nine weeks premature and suffered health problems as an infant and newborn as a result. Pratt and Faris are advocates for the March of Dimes to raise awareness and fund research and treatment for babies born premature as well as with other complications or medical conditions. Pratt said of Jack at a 2014 event for the charity (via PEOPLE), “Anna got to hold him for a moment and then it was off to the NICU—the neonatal intensive care unit. He was three pounds, 12 ounces. That’s a decent-sized bass—very small for a human. He would need a lot.” Pratt continued, “He had jaundice, so they put a blindfold on him and he slept beneath [a] creepy light and he had a PICC line, which is an IV that runs up his arm into his heart. He had a feeding tube and just wires in and out, and he lived in that incubator. That was his first crib.” “He was hooked up to these monitors and to us it meant that the machine started beeping because he stopped breathing over and over. One of the brave and amazing nurses would come over and shake him a little bit, I guess to remind him he was alive. The only people allowed to touch him were his mom and me, unless you were wearing gloves,” he recalled. Despite the difficulties and uncertainty, Pratt looks back on that trying time with warm memories. “My little boy was laying across my neck and chest feeling my heartbeat and feeling my love, and I played him country music and I sang to him and I made him promises in that moment—you know, about just about what kind of dad I wanted to be, and I just prayed that he’d be here long enough and he was going to let me keep him,” he said. “I’ve done all kinds of cool things as an actor: I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy.” When Jack and Faris left the hospital, he had to undergo continued medical treatment, including five surgeries. Now, Pratt says, Jack is thriving. “Our Jack went from a small helpless little squirt to a strong, happy, funny and vocal boy. He loves monster trucks and Daniel Tiger and, believe it or not, he loves vegetables. Broccoli and cherry tomatoes are his favorite foods!”

Pratt previously told Parade that Schwarzenegger’s pandemic pregnancy wasn’t easy, largely because he was filming and had to provide support more via Zoom than he could in the flesh. “I think for us, [the pandemic] brought us closer. I was fortunate to work through the pandemic, which was good, but also incredibly hard. Katherine was pregnant. Her entire pregnancy happened in the pandemic and she gave birth in the pandemic and I was working on Jurassic World in London and because of the travel restrictions and the quarantine stuff I was gone for a lot of that,” he said. “So that was really hard. My support for her in her pregnancy was, you know, virtual. It was over Zoom and over FaceTime and that was really hard. That was really complicated. Like I said, I was grateful to be working—but it was complicated and to give birth in a pandemic and have an entire pregnancy in a pandemic.
