Are any characters leaving Chicago Med in season 7?
With their contracts up at the end of season 6, both Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto exited Chicago Med when their characters’ stories were wrapped up. DaCosta was immediately snapped up to star in the new FOX series Our Kind of People, in which she plays a Black hair-care mogul. DaCosta wrote on Instagram of her exit, “After six amazing seasons of working with some of the most dedicated people in the business, learning wild medical jargon, growing as an actor and as a person… my time as April Sexton on Chicago Med has come to a close.” DeVitto, too, took to Instagram, saying, “All good things must come to an end. It has been such an honor and pure joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on Chicago Med for the past 6 seasons. But it is now time for her and me to bow out and say goodbye.” DeVitto is following up her role on the medical drama with the indie feature Skelly. She plays the mother of 11-year-old Jonah, whose grandfather passes away plunging his dad into a state of grief that Jonah can’t comprehend. DeVitto may not be leaving the city of Chicago because she also revealed on Instagram that she is dating Chicago Cubs manager David Ross.
Are there any new characters joining Chicago Med for season 7?
The first cast change for season 7 is Steven Weber’s promotion from recurring as Dr. Dean Archer to series regular now that Dr. Archer is temporarily replacing Dr. Choi as head of the ED while Choi is recovering from his illness. Additionally, according to Deadline, two new doctors will join the staff of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Guy Lockard will play, Dr. Dylan Scott, who left a career as a Chicago police officer to become a doctor. And Kristen Hager takes on the role of Dr. Stevie Hammer, a brilliant and scrappy emergency room attending physician.
Are there any spoilers for Chicago Med season 7?
The departures of Dr. Natalie Manning and Nurse April Sexton are really mixing up the storylines, so it is hard to predict what will be happening in season 7 aside from the usual life-and-death drama caused by the medical cases that come into the ED. We know for sure that Dr. Charles and Dr. Marcel and the newly promoted to head of the ED, Dr. Archer, will be on hand to tackle the medical drama, but it is unclear when Dr. Choi will be well enough to return to work, following the shooting that almost cost him his life. Also at issue is the firing of Dr. Halstead—and since Gehlfuss renewed his contract, we are encouraged that there is hope that now that his name has been cleared, Sharon might reinstate him, at least on a probationary level. But, Will and Archer have issues, so without Ethan there to mediate, it could be a bumpy ride even if he does return.
What happened at the end of Chicago Med season 6?
There were two major stories for the season 6 finale, each to wrap up the storylines for the departing cast members. First, Will Halstead was fired from Chicago Gaffney by Sharon Goodwin after taking the blame for Natalie Manning, who stole medication from his trial to give to her mother. Sharon had no choice but to terminate Will because those trials are a big source of revenue and prestige for the hospital, and as a result of what he did, the company severed its ties with the hospital. When Natalie discovered this, she went to Sharon and confessed the truth, making her departure inevitable. But the good news was, her mother did get a new heart, if not a perfect one. Natalie also came clean to Crockett Marcel, which ended their relationship. Poor Dr. Marcel can’t catch a break when it comes to romance. Then, Ethan was shot by Dr. Archer’s appendicitis patient, who also had mental issues, and was waving a gun around in the parking lot. As a result of his military training, Ethan tried to grab the gun and subdue the man but wound up getting shot. Archer and Will disagreed on Ethan’s treatment, but Archer prevailed, and luckily, Ethan did survive the surgery, which gave April a chance to say goodbye to him as she left Chicago Gaffney to enter the nurse practitioners program. Sharon named Archer interim chief of the ED not realizing that Ethan was having second thoughts about his mentor’s capabilities due to his reluctance to admit to his PTSD.
