That’s right, dear readers: The romantic and scandalous series set in Regency London was renewed for Season 3 way back in April 2021—along with an upcoming Season 4! Lady Whistledown herself announced the news in her society papers, teasing, “This author shall have to purchase more ink…” In the first 28 days after Bridgerton’s December 2020 debut, a record 82 million households tuned into the sexy period drama, making it (at the time) the “biggest series ever on Netflix” (until Squid Game came along, that is). Less than a month after the premiere, Bridgerton was renewed for a second season, while a third and fourth season were announced months later. “From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team,” Shonda Rhimes said in a statement at the time. “This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.” While fans will have to wait and see what tea Whistledown will be spilling in her next gossip column, here is everything we do know so far about Bridgerton Season 3, including some major spoilers!
When will Season 3 of Bridgerton premiere?
Season 2 of Bridgerton premiered on Friday, March 25, 2022, but no release date for Season 3 has been announced. However, Rhimes told PopBuzz at the Season 2 premiere that they are already working on the new season, so “we can have a shorter time between seasons.” That’s good news for fans who waited well over a year after Season 1’s Christmas 2020 premiere for more episodes. According to a March 30, 2022, tweet, hiring is underway for the series’ Season 3 crew—and production will start in June 2022. Filming is then currently slated to continue until late January 2023. So we know at the very least, we probably won’t get new Season 3 episodes until sometime later in 2023. On July 20, 2022, it was revealed that production for Bridgerton Season 3 was underway.
When will Season 3 of Bridgerton begin filming?
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington confirmed to Marie Claire Australia that the next season will begin filming in summer 2022—and in a video shared by WWD, the actress said, “We’re getting into Season 3 this summer.” On July 20, 2022, it was revealed that production started on Bridgerton Season 3. Who is in the Bridgerton Season 3 cast?
The official Season 3 cast and any new additions after Seasons 1 and 2 have yet to be revealed, but it’s safe to assume that the Bridgerton family, along with Lady Whistledown (whose real identity is none other than Penelope Featherington) will be back. Season 2’s cast included:
Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton
Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton
Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton
Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington
Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury
Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte
Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton and Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton
Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton
Harriet Cains as Philipa Featherington and Bessie Carter as Prudence Featherington
Ben Miller as Lord Featherington and Polly Walker as Lady Portia Featherington
Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma
Simone Ashley told Vogue U.K. that Bridgerton Season 3 will see a softer side of Kate Sharma, explaining that her dynamic with Anthony Bridgerton will be “sweet, endearing and light, compared to the heaviness of their story last season … Even though [Kate] comes across as fierce, people like that are sometimes the softest on the inside. They develop that skin because they’re vulnerable. You see her insecurities and fears.” Liam Daniel/Netflix Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Netflix Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix Nick Briggs/Netflix Liam Daniel/Netflix

Calam Lynch as Theo Sharpe
Rupert Evans as Edmund Bridgerton
Ashley has confirmed that both she and Bailey will return for the third season. “We’re going to be back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started,” she revealed to Deadline. “We have the amazing Jess Brownell who is taking the lead as showrunner in Season 3. In Season 2, there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end. I think everything is just starting. I’d like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more in Season 3 and kind of swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it.”
What will Season 3 of Bridgerton be about?
The first two seasons of the period drama have followed the order of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series, which the Netflix show of the same name is based on. However, Season 3 will skip the third book and go to Book 4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s storyline. Liam Daniel/Netflix Netflix’s official Bridgerton Season 3 storyline reads: Nicola Coughlan promised steamy sex scenes in Season 3, but admitted (via Digital Spy) that she was nervous to film them or have her family see them! “There’s a scene in the carriage. And it’s just if they’re sort of arguing, and then it all gets very romantic, shall we say, but I think it will be such a good scene in the show. It terrifies me to think of filming but I think it would be really great,” she said. “So I know that it gets extremely racy in that scene. I know already stuff that’s gonna happen.”
Are there any Bridgerton Season 3 spoilers?
So the big question heading into Season 3 is, which future couple’s happy ending will that season focus on? We know that Season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her quest for a husband, while Season 2 was all about her older brother, Lord Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). That still leaves six more Bridgerton siblings: Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt), Gregory (Will Tilston) and Francesca (Ruby Stokes). If the series were to follow the Bridgeton series of novels, then we know we’d get the love story of Benedict. However, there have already been some major hints that the TV series might not follow the order of the books’ love stories. None other than Rhimes herself shared a big, big teaser right before Bridgerton’s Season 2 premiere. When asked which Bridgerton sibling will be the new protagonist of Season 3, she told ET, “That is already in progress and you’ll see. Give it time… I can’t tell you! That is a spoiler, I can’t.” Rhimes did confirm to ET, “We’re planning on following each one of the siblings’ romantic stories,” but added, “We’re not necessarily going in order, but we are going to be seeing each of the siblings and their stories.” Series showrunner Chris Van Dusen seemed to suggest he was keen to tell Benedict’s story soon, telling ET, “I love Benedict’s story. I love his story and all these siblings, all these characters for different reasons. They all offer something new. I think it was really the appeal to me in a project like this, the fact that we could tell these close-ended love stories and shift focus season after season.” Ashley seemed to reveal that Colin and Penelope might be Season 3’s romantic leads. She told E! News, “I’m super excited for the world to see Nicola [Coughlan] and Luke [Newton] rock it, but also to just play with the Anthony and Kate story now that they’re loved up and they’ve kind of sorted themselves out.” With Anthony and Kate a.k.a. Kanthony returning for Season 3, Bailey warned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that there is “going to be complication [ahead].” He explained, “They’re not simple people. I know they will work as a unit, and I know he’ll be completely devoted to her, so I’m excited to see that and to explore [that]. In the book and source material, there’s so much about her past and his past, so seeing maybe perhaps conversations where they acknowledge that further, and they have a really rich connection, just exploring that a bit further will be great. The payoff of the slow burn I think will continue for the years to come.”
Will there be more Bridgerton after Season 3?
Yes! Season 4 was announced at the same time as Season 3, while Van Dusen has expressed interest in having eight seasons overall. In 2020, he told Collider, “I feel like the first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon. But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure.” In 2022, Van Dusen told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s really any creator’s goal to create characters that can sustain the lifetime of a series, and in this case, I was able to even create characters that could sustain an entire franchise and multiple series, like what’s happening with Queen Charlotte,” adding, “So, it’s a show that’s turning to multiple shows, and the franchise has really been able to expand, so I’m definitely excited to see where else you can go.”
