Earlier this week, the “Lake Superior” Twitter account made a statement in support of women having the right to choose. The tweet came just moments after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade and it reads, “This lake vehemently stands with women having the right to choose.” The responses quickly became as vast as the depths of Marianas Trench. While many users shared their support of the sentiment, the tweet was swept out and onto the timelines of those who do not approve of the right to an abortion. One disagreeing user in particular, Tom Fitton, retweeted the post alongside his own commentary only to be quickly drowned out by the internet’s fury. Fitton, who is the President of JudicialWatch.org, “a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation,” added “Water is wet and abortion kills a human being.” The exchange didn’t end there. The unofficial Lake Superior account replied with a rather NSFW diss that had Twitter users in a tsunami of emotions. The “lake’s” response reads: “Thomas, not even your first talking point is correct. Water is not wet, whatever water touches is wet. I’m confident I have a lot more experience in making things wet than you do.” The reply went viral with users quick to celebrate the diss and rub it in once more. One user comparing the shutdown to a ‘drowning.’ While another compared it to a ‘shipwreck.’ The comment even awarded Lake Superior international recognition. That’s not to say everyone found the series of cunning commentary to be comedy gold. A handful of users seemed to take personal offense to the diss by the lake and penned vulgar responses, claimed to unfollow the account, or simply doubled-down on their support for the recent SCOTUS ruling on abortion. But rest assured, despite what some would call a “Superior burn,” Tom Fitton is doing well enough to continue the online spectacle.
