Many internet users and even other celebrities have since spoken out to publicly denounce West’s offensive messaging, including beloved Friends star, David Schwimmer. The 55-year-old actor—who was reportedly raised by Jewish parents himself—is now urging West’s partners at Adidas to drop the rapper as a result of his harmful comments, despite the company’s plans to release a new line of Yeezy shoes this week. Schwimmer took to Instagram on Friday to voice his opinion on the matter, while sharing a video of West stating, “I can literally say antisemitic things and Adidas can’t drop me…Now what?” Schwimmer posted the video to his Instagram Story, along with the message “Now what,” directed to the Adidas Instagram account, which was tagged in the post. He also shared a follow-up post, inviting his followers to join him and the Anti-Defamation League in demanding that Adidas cut ties with the Donda artist once and for all. In a campagin entitled “#RunAwayFromHate,” the Anti-Defamation League is calling on Adidas to “reconsider their partnership” with West. The ADL’s letter to Adidas Executives can be read in full here. Schwimmer also shared a link on his Instagram Story to a petition on Change.org, which is collecting signatures in the hopes of getting the shoe and clothing brand to drop West. But this isn’t the first time the Madagascar actor has spoken up against West’s comments, as he previously called the “Heartless” rapper a “bigot” in an Instagram post earlier this month. “His hate speech calls for violence against Jews,” Schwimmer wrote in the post on Oct. 10, while condemning those who excuse West’s behavior on the basis that he is mentally ill. “If you interpret his words any other way and defend him, guess what? You are racist.” “If we don’t call someone as influential as Kanye out for his divisive, ignorant and antisemitic words then we are complicit,” he continued, along with the conclusion, “Silence is complicity.” His post appeared to be supported by his Friends co-star and longtime pal Jennifer Aniston, who double-tapped the important message.
